A Trip to The Walters Art Museum

Grab a friend

If you think museums are boring and stuffy, you haven’t been to the Walters Art Museum in downtown Baltimore. I went with a friend for the first time and it was welcoming and fun the entire time. It’s near, free and suitable for students who want to hang out with friends, who want to explore on their own, and those who are looking for a fun first date.I am someone who loves exploring new places and learn new information regarding historical events. I usually go to these places by myself, but this time I went with my friend, and we had an amazing time at the Walters Art Museum.

Upon arrival, we were welcomed by a calm and peaceful environment. I was expecting to feel shy and judged, but instead I realized that I was in my head. People were just admiring the artwork and doing their own thing. That helped me to stay present and grounded.

Ancient artifacts of egypt

One of the most popular ancient artifacts were the ancient artifacts that came from different cultures, such as Egypt. Some were from thousands of years ago and seeing them in person felt surreal and more intimate. You could smell the history in the room. The ambient lights surrounding the artifact made it pop out more. You could see the cracks on it; the strong ocean blue, red and yellow triangular patterns.

The Armored Man

It’s crazy to think armored men walked amongst us. Walking into that section of the museum will give you chills. The smell of the metal stood out almost immediately. It The armored man seemed very heavy and was about 6 feet tall. The light reflecting off the armor will have you checking yourself out. I pictured the man preparing for battle, being brave and standing up for what’s right.

The Global Art Gallery

There were also paintings from many different countries and time periods. Some were very detailed, while others used bold colors that struck me immediately. I enjoyed how each room was different. It felt as if I entered and went into a new place. I really liked this museum because whenever the country, time period, or type of artwork changed, the atmosphere and design of the space changed as well. Every part seemed different, so it helped make me focus more on what I was looking at. I felt closer to the culture of every piece, like I was taking a small peek at that place and history.
