A Broke Student’s Guide to the Harbor

By Kaiden Watson

While the East Harbor is full of fancy shops, from J Crew to Lulemon, there are plenty of ways to enjoy it if you are a broke student like me. From beginning to end, I enjoyed the harbor without spending a dollar.

There are actually tons of great restaurants in this neighborhood that smell amazing when you walk past them. I saw plenty of people eating outside, but I steered clear and walked around. The scenery is worth it. You can watch the sun hit the big buildings and see the massive ships moving in the distance. I spent my time just sitting on a bench and people-watching, which is great free entertainment. You don’t need a fancy dinner to enjoy the view here.

This is a long walking path right on the edge of the water. It’s perfect for a walk to forget about school stress, and you can see the giant Domino Sugar sign across the way. It is open 24/7, so you can visit whenever you want for free.

There are several spots with open grass where you can just sit down and relax. I saw people lying in the sun and watching the boats go in and out of the harbor. It’s a very quiet area during the day, making it a solid place to hang out without spending any money.

As you walk through the streets, there are tons of cool sculptures everywhere. It’s like an outdoor museum that does not have an entrance fee. These art pieces look great in photos and make for a fun walk around the neighborhood.

Overall, East Harbor is the best place to go when you want to get off campus but don’t have the money in your account to spend. You can get a great view, some fresh air, and a little peace of mind without spending a single dollar.
